This course is designed to provide students with a communicative-based foundation in the Paiute language. Students will learn the basic alphabet, pronunciation, vocabulary, sentence structure and cultural aspects of the Paiute language. They will develop an understanding of the Paiute culture and learn how to function within that culture in an appropriate manner. Issues regarding the importance of preserving the language will also be addressed.

Welcome!

How U. Nu Lance West mi nanea. This is a new feature that we are adding to our website to allow improved communication with parents, students, and the community. It's our goal to better inform you of what's going on daily with our Paiute Language class here at NVHS. This year will be our second year. While I am there for support as well as learning as a student, I see myself being the eyes/ears for our extended families in the rural communities (Walker River, Fallon, PL). I want to help everyone understand what it takes to maintain a Paiute language program in a school district. It's never been done and we are learning as we go. My dream is to see programs similar to ours develop in other counties. I know that Douglass High is very interested in seeing what we've done and that encourages me to promote and display our successes and failures. I wish everyone a great school year and please visit this web page often for updates.
