About North Valleys Paiute Language Class

This course is designed to provide students with a communicative-based foundation in the Paiute language. Students will learn the basic alphabet, pronunciation, vocabulary, sentence structure and cultural aspects of the Paiute language. They will develop an understanding of the Paiute culture and learn how to function within that culture in an appropriate manner. Issues regarding the importance of preserving the language will also be addressed.

Everyone created simple Paiute sentences.  Here are a few examples that our students created: 


1st year:

3.            Soo atsa wange’e tanomane.
4.            Soo toha esa ka tutsepongatze tukawunu.
5.            Toohoo nagabatsa nakoe. 
 6.           Nana kootsa.


7.            Soo poohe pakwe pahabe.
8.            Soo etse pookoo tanomane.
9.            Soo poohe sadu’u tuhewe.
10.          Soo waha natse nadawunae.
11.          Soo oha puhu pahabe.
12.          Soo paba sadu’u ka tooese kukukweba.
13.          Soo pooe pamogo nadakwunae.
14.          Soo wohetu pahabemea.

2nd year:


1.            Nubabe mae ka tonega tonoyooe.
2.            Soo onga (not ongabe – salt) saduno nadakwunae.

We reviewed the action words, everyone received a notes packet and watched a DVD .  We worked on quiz corrections.  Next class the quiz corrections are due.
